DIY and Disconnect: Clothes Pin Magic

Clothes pins are multi-functional and can be used for projects around the house, keeping yourself organized, and a plethora of DIY projects! While household capers and organization are super important, we are way more interested in sharing a new favorite craft – all work and no play never did anyone any good!

Check out this super fast and simple two-step project for some new candle holders or mini planters. You likely even have all of the materials laying around your home so you have no excuses not to give this one a try.

Make your own clothes pin planters

For this project you will need:

  • Clothes pins
  • Cans (we used a washed tuna can)
  • Tea lights
  • Decorative rocks or sand
  • Succulents
  • Dirt

Step one: pin it

First, you will want to completely cover the outside of your can with clothes pins. Simply clip them on. Yes, it’s that easy. It took us seconds. If you want to get really fancy, you could always paint the clothes pin your favorite color. We’re big fans of painting things (canvas, plates, really anything…)

Step two: fill it

Easy DIY clothes pin candle holders

If you are going to make a candle holder, fill the can with decorative rocks or sand and then nestle a tea light inside (choose battery operated if you want something simple to maintain). For a mini terrarium, place a few rocks in the bottom of the can and top with dirt. The rocks at the bottom will help with drainage when you water your plant later. Then plant your succulents (or air plants or cacti) and decorate with more rocks and sand!
