DIY and Disconnect: String Art

In both Canada and the United States, it is a big week for holidays. First, we have the 150th Canada Day on July 1st, and then Independence Day in the USA on July 4th! We’ve been chatting a little about these holidays in some of our other posts this week, overĀ cocktails, and paintings, but for those of you who are a little more crafty, we wanted to show you how to celebrate with string art!

If you are having a barbecue or other festivities in honor of these national celebrations, string art crafts make the perfect decor. Enough talking, here’s how you make them!

For this project, you will need:

  • Wood cuts
  • 3/4″ nails
  • Embroidery floss
  • Scissors
  • A hammer
  • Pencil or stencil
  • A can-do attitude

Step one: prep

hammer nails into your wooden board

First, lay out your stencil on your wood or draw your shape with a pencil. Once you have your shape in place, begin to hammer in nails along the edge.

Step two: string

Now, choose a nail to begin on and tie your embroidery floss to it. From here, bring the thread from nail to nail until you have filled in all of the space.
