Signature Sips: Modern Mai Tai

The Mai Tai is a tropical classic. Full of rum and pineapple with a hint of citrus, the Mai Tai rarely disappoints. In honor of this timeless beverage, we wanted to make a version for the 21st century! By adding hibiscus and thyme, our version is fresh and sweet, but still manages to pack a punch.


Mai Tai 1

For the Modern Mai Tai, you’ll need:

  • Light rum
  • Pineapple juice
  • Lemon
  • Honey
  • Hibiscus flowers in syrup
  • Thyme

Step one: rum

First, add in two ounces of rum and one ounce of lemon juice into a glass of crushed ice.

Step two: pineapple

Then, fill the rest of the glass with pineapple juice and sprinkle in some thyme.

Step three: hibiscus and honey

Now, add in a teaspoon of honey and a teaspoon of hibiscus syrup.

Step four: garnish

Finally, it’s time to garnish. Add a hibiscus flower, a lemon curl, and a sprig of lime to your cocktail—you can even add an umbrella if you’re feeling extra festive!
