Cheers from Florida! Today we are coming at you from the Sunshine State with a cocktail suggestion from our local Ft. Myers Plant Party Queen, Lisa Crawford. If there’s one ingredient that epitomizes Florida, it’s the ruby red grapefruit. Did you know that “the grapefruit‘s name alludes to clusters of the fruit on the tree, which often appear similar to grapes.” Learn something new every day.

OK, now we’re all excited to spend time by the beach and try this week’s cocktail. So, how do you make it? Follow along below.
For the Ruby Red and Rosemary, you will need:
- Simple syrup (go ahead and try rosemary simple syrup if you’re feeling adventurous!)
Step one: vodka
First, add in one ounce of vodka per glass. If you are looking for something a little stronger, go ahead and add in two!
Step two: grapefruit
Take your grapefruit and juice it. We needed three large grapefruits to make enough juice for two cocktails. Strain and add the juice to your glasses. If you opt for pre-made grapefruit juice from the store, no need to add the simple syrup or sugar. It’ll be sweet enough.
Step three: finishing touches!
You have some options here. If you want to boost the sweetness and herbal profile, try making your own rosemary simple syrup. It’s pretty straightforward. Just heat water, sugar, and rosemary in a saucepan until the sugar dissolves and it becomes aromatic. If you prefer to keep the rosemary more subtle and want to keep the flavors more crisp and bright, add a squeeze of lemon and a sprig of rosemary to each glass. Don’t forget a bit of sugar if you like it sweeter.
