I was born into an artistic family in Salt Lake City, Utah, and have been drawing from the moment I could pick up a crayon. I have an adventurous spirit, always ready to see and learn something new, and as such I have moved all around the country. After high school, I attended the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington where I was awarded the Trustee’s and an Art Departmental Scholarship. I transferred to the University of Utah where I received my BFA in Painting and Drawing in 2002. After graduation, I worked locally in floral design and architectural drafting while spending my free time creating narrative figurative paintings in oil. Never knowing when a fleeting thought or inspiration will strike, I always carry a sketchbook to jot down notes, ideas and sketches. The smallest details often are the seeds of inspiration for my figurative oil paintings, full of symbolism, which are meant to tell a story. My work has been featured in the Salt Lake City Weekly and in the Salt Lake Tribune. In 2008, I moved to Boston to attend the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and in 2010 received a MFA with an emphasis in 2-Dimensional Art. Also in 2010 while at MassArt, I won the George Nick Prize for my Thesis Exhibition work. I have exhibited my paintings in galleries in Tacoma, Salt Lake City, and Boston. Besides teaching for Paint Nite, I am also an adjunct instructor at a local college where I teach drawing and sculpture courses. I love to teach, and it comes maybe only second to my love for painting. The most rewarding and inspiring part of teaching is when one of my students makes a breakthrough artistically. I am absolutely thrilled to be with Paint Nite, and enthusiastic about teaching people eager to paint and expand their artistic skill and creativity. Don’t forget that everyone has to start somewhere and there is an artist in all of us that just needs to be harnessed! I’m outgoing and super excited! This zest for art has a tendency to be contagious! So, pick up your drink, get your creative juices flowing and let’s get ready to have some fun!
Questions about what to expect, what’s included, and how it all works.
Yes. Moonrise Dawn is designed to be achievable at any experience level. More satisfying than it looks difficult — Grace breaks every step down clearly. Most of our guests have never picked up a brush before, and they leave with something they're genuinely proud of. Worth knowing: Paint Nite events happen at real bars and restaurants, not studios — it's a night out that happens to involve painting.
A painting class teaches you technique. Paint Nite gives you a finished painting and a good night. Grace is a real local artist — not a teacher running a curriculum — and this event happens at Elixir Lounge, a real local spot, not a studio. Paint Nite invented this format in 2012 and has sold more than 10 million tickets. The trade-off is honest: lighting varies, it can get loud, and the person at the next easel is a stranger. That's the point. It's more of a night out than a class.
Moonrise Dawn is one of our most popular date night paintings in Holladay. You each paint your own canvas — same painting, different results — which always makes for a fun comparison at the end of the night. The mood of the painting is romantic — expect something beautiful to bring home.
Grace is a real local artist based in Holladay — not a franchise employee or a corporate hire. Paint Nite artists complete our certification program before their first event. Across all Paint Nite events, 93% of guests say their instructor was amazing.
Elixir Lounge is a local venue in Holladay — a real local spot, not a dedicated painting studio. Paint Nite events happen at places like this by design — venues with character, regulars, and a bar. It can get lively. That's what makes it a night out rather than a class.
Moonrise Dawn is a summer painting — bright, warm tones that match the season perfectly.
Yaymaker is Paint Nite. We brought both brands together under the Paint Nite name — same artists, same events, same format we invented in 2012. More than 10 million tickets have been sold across both brands combined. If you used to attend Yaymaker events in Holladay, you're in the right place. Welcome back.
Your ticket to Moonrise Dawn includes the canvas, all the paint you'll need, the use of brushes and an apron during the event, and step-by-step instruction from Grace. Drinks and food are ordered separately from Elixir Lounge — you pay the venue directly for anything you eat or drink.
Elixir Lounge's event starts at 7:30 PM. We suggest showing up by 7:00 PM to give yourself time to pick your seats, get a drink and maybe a bite before Grace starts the painting.
You can reschedule your ticket to any other Paint Nite event up to 24 hours before this one starts. After that, tickets are locked — no refunds or changes. If Paint Nite cancels this event for any reason, you'll receive a full automatic refund.
