Saturday nights at Broadway Bar and Grill have a way of taking on a life of their own, and this one is shaping up to be something I'm genuinely looking forward to. We're painting Snowy Day — bare trees reaching into a cold sky, soft whites and deep blues layering into something quiet and beautiful — and it's the kind of painting that surprises people. You start with a background and suddenly the whole scene starts clicking into place. I've been hosting for a few years now, so I'll meet you where you are, whether you've never picked up a brush or you paint on weekends. Watching that winter stillness come together, canvas by canvas across a full room, never gets old.

Questions about what to expect, what’s included, and how it all works.
Yes. Chasing Light is designed to be achievable at any experience level. More satisfying than it looks difficult — Team Creative breaks every step down clearly. Most of our guests have never picked up a brush before, and they leave with something they're genuinely proud of. Worth knowing: Paint Nite events happen at real bars and restaurants, not studios — it's a night out that happens to involve painting.
A painting class teaches you technique. Paint Nite gives you a finished painting and a good night. Team Creative is a real local artist — not a teacher running a curriculum — and this event happens at Broadway Bar and Grill Portobello, a real local spot, not a studio. Paint Nite invented this format in 2012 and has sold more than 10 million tickets. The trade-off is honest: lighting varies, it can get loud, and the person at the next easel is a stranger. That's the point. It's more of a night out than a class.
Yes — Chasing Light is a Paint Nite favourite for girls nights in Ottawa. Everyone paints their own canvas, so there's always something to laugh about at the end. If you're planning a bachelorette party or a larger group, private events of 10+ get reserved seating and a custom experience.
Team Creative is a real local artist based in Ottawa — not a franchise employee or a corporate hire. In Ottawa, 69 out of 94 Paint Nite guests rated their instructor as amazing. . said: 'It was fun night out. Joyce is so much fun and has the knack of putting everyone at ease.'
Broadway Bar and Grill Portobello is a local venue in Ottawa — a real local spot, not a dedicated painting studio. Paint Nite events happen at places like this by design — venues with character, regulars, and a bar. It can get lively. That's what makes it a night out rather than a class. 35% of guests who've attended events at Broadway Bar and Grill Portobello rated the atmosphere highly.
Yes — we have 224 upcoming events in Ottawa this month. You can view them here.
Yaymaker is Paint Nite. We brought both brands together under the Paint Nite name — same artists, same events, same format we invented in 2012. More than 10 million tickets have been sold across both brands combined. If you used to attend Yaymaker events in Ottawa, you're in the right place. Welcome back.
Your ticket to Chasing Light includes the canvas, all the paint you'll need, the use of brushes and an apron during the event, and step-by-step instruction from Team Creative. Drinks and food are ordered separately from Broadway Bar and Grill Portobello — you pay the venue directly for anything you eat or drink.
Broadway Bar and Grill Portobello's event starts at 7:00 PM. We suggest showing up by 6:30 PM to give yourself time to pick your seats, get a drink and maybe a bite before Team Creative starts the painting.
You can reschedule your ticket to any other Paint Nite event up to 24 hours before this one starts. After that, tickets are locked — no refunds or changes. If Paint Nite cancels this event for any reason, you'll receive a full automatic refund.
