Sunday afternoon, the sky on your canvas goes from black to deep blue without you quite knowing how it happened — that's the thing about painting a moonlit galaxy scene, the colors build on each other and suddenly it clicks. I'm Arlene, and I've run over 350 of these sessions, so I'll meet you where you are whether you've never picked up a brush or just haven't in a while. We're out at Society Kitchen in Santa Monica, painting mountains and trees under a star-filled night sky, moons glowing through clouds — the whole painting has this quiet, expansive feeling that ends up being a lot more personal than people expect when they sit down.
Spend your evening where great food, creativity, and good vibes come together. Our lively outdoor space offers a unique night out with delicious, fresh-made dishes, hands-on painting, and fun arts & crafts for all ages. Questions about what to expect, what’s included, and how it all works.
Blue Galaxy Moonscape is one of our more detailed paintings, which is exactly what makes it so satisfying to finish. Arlene paces it carefully so nobody gets left behind — and Arlene will help you turn any mistake into something intentional. Worth knowing: Paint Nite events happen at real bars and restaurants, not studios — it's a night out that happens to involve painting.
A painting class teaches you technique. Paint Nite gives you a finished painting and a good night. Arlene is a real local artist — not a teacher running a curriculum — and this event happens at Society Kitchen, a real local spot, not a studio. Paint Nite invented this format in 2012 and has sold more than 10 million tickets. The trade-off is honest: lighting varies, it can get loud, and the person at the next easel is a stranger. That's the point. It's more of a night out than a class.
Arlene is a real local artist based in SANTA MONICA — not a franchise employee or a corporate hire. 12 out of 27 guests who've painted with Arlene say the instruction was amazing. Julianna B. said: 'Awesome event! The teacher is so incredible and the event was fun, educational, entertaining and inspiring!! Highly recommended!!!'
Society Kitchen is a local venue in SANTA MONICA — a real local spot, not a dedicated painting studio. Paint Nite events happen at places like this by design — venues with character, regulars, and a bar. It can get lively. That's what makes it a night out rather than a class.
Yes — we have 21 upcoming events in SANTA MONICA this month. You can view them here.
Yaymaker is Paint Nite. We brought both brands together under the Paint Nite name — same artists, same events, same format we invented in 2012. More than 10 million tickets have been sold across both brands combined. If you used to attend Yaymaker events in SANTA MONICA, you're in the right place. Welcome back.
Your ticket to Blue Galaxy Moonscape includes the canvas, all the paint you'll need, the use of brushes and an apron during the event, and step-by-step instruction from Arlene. Drinks and food are ordered separately from Society Kitchen — you pay the venue directly for anything you eat or drink.
Society Kitchen's event starts at 1:00 PM. We suggest showing up by 12:30 PM to give yourself time to pick your seats, get a drink and maybe a bite before Arlene starts the painting.
You can reschedule your ticket to any other Paint Nite event up to 24 hours before this one starts. After that, tickets are locked — no refunds or changes. If Paint Nite cancels this event for any reason, you'll receive a full automatic refund.
