What Guests Are Saying
My wife and I heard about this restaurant a few days ago and decided to make the one-hour drive from our home to Wildewood, Maryland to give it a try. The food was absolutely phenomenal, easily the highlight of our visit. Unfortunately, our server, Clare, completely overshadowed what could have been a great experience. The restaurant was pretty empty. Clare initially greeted us, brought our waters, and took our appetizer order. However, after that, she disappeared. We waited more than 20 minutes just to place our entrée order. During that time, she walked past our table multiple times without checking on us while taking care of other guests, taking their orders, and refilling their drinks. To make matters even more concerning, she was repeatedly going in and out of the restroom changing the toilet paper. I personally did not notice her wash her hands afterward before returning to the dining area. I can’t say whether she did or didn’t, but I never observed it, and that left me uncomfortable. I eventually had to ask her to come back so we could place our food order. Once our order was finally placed, we hardly saw her again until it was time to pay. My water was never refilled, and there was no effort to check on us during the meal. What bothered me most happened when it was time to pay. Rather than addressing me, Clare consistently looked only at my wife, even though I was the one paying. She also held the handheld payment device in a way that didn’t allow me to review my bill before paying. After the transaction was complete, my wife noticed that I had been charged twice for my drinks. That should have been caught before the payment was processed. When we left, there was no “thank you,” no “have a safe night,” and no invitation to come back. Ironically, the only person who acknowledged us as we walked out was Chris Dean, the guitarist performing in the corner. He wasn’t even an employee, yet he gave us a friendly nod that made us feel more appreciated than our own server did. The kitchen deserves five stars. The service deserves one. Unfortunately, service is a major part of the dining experience, and because of that, I can only give this restaurant 2 out of 5 stars. I hope management addresses these issues, because the food alone is worth the drive, but the service was not. (UPDATE) Upon checking my bank account today, I was charged for the drink again, instead of receiving the refund… called and am now awaiting a call back from the manager.
Food was decent. They should check their sauces, the ranch looked spoiled. Waitress Lynn was nice, she was pretty awesome actually. Bartender should work at a funeral home. Horrible service from him.
I'd say the food was mediocre at best. It wasn't bad but wasn't wow I got to come back again either. Went with a friend and his mom. He got the shrimp platter which looked lack luster (but the small size of Coleslaw which I tried was creamy and sweet like coleslaw should be) and his mom got loaded tater tots, fried dumplings and a Cesar salad. The tots didn't come loaded as she asked for no cheese sauce and they just gave a dollop of sour cream in the middle with a sprinkling of green onions. Then the fried dumplings where hard and over crispy. I got the guac burger which was good the bun was buttery and lightly toasted but instead of using guacamole which honestly made a huge mess and I had to use a fork and knife to eat it I'd recommend avocado slices and the fries weren't bad they just kind of tasted grocery store quality with no real crunch. Now the drink selection wow blew me away with all the choices they served. The cider I got was crispy and refreshing and great. The server we had was okay forgot some things but I've had a lot worse. Both my friend and his mom raved about this place but honestly I didn't see what they saw. They said just must have been a off day or the folks in the kitchen we're new. They were kind of surprised themselves at the end of the meal as we were walking out. I'd go back sit at the bar for drinks as they were good but food that was left to be desirable in my opinion.
